Cultivation of Chawli Immediately after harvest of kharif crop, good yield is obtained by cultivating the land and planting chawli.
Konkan Evergreen, Konkan White, C-152 varieties should be selected for cultivation. In medium and heavy soils, good yield of chawli is obtained.
The soil surface for this crop should be neutral.
The land should be plowed after pre-harvest.
The land should be made cultivable by giving 1 to 2 shifts with the help of family.
At the time of final application, 5 tons of manure or compost per hectare should be mixed in the soil.
Finally, flat sizes of suitable size should be prepared for planting.1) Sowing should be completed by 15th December.
Sowing after December results in drastic reduction in yield.
It takes 25 to 30 kg seed per hectare.2) First process 3 gms of Thyrum per kg of seed.
The seeds should be dried in shade and then treated with 250 g of Rhizobium bactericide per 10 kg of seed.
Seeds should be dried in shade and used for sowing.3) Sowing should be done by token method or pabhari.
For sowing spacing should be 45 cm for spreading variety and 30 cm for emergent variety.
The distance between two plants should be 10 to 15 cm.4) In case of pabhari sowing, after 15 days of sowing, thinning should be done and distance between two seedlings should be 10 to 15 cm.5) Apply 25 kg N and 50 kg P per hectare without 5 tons of manure or compost per hectare.
Apply full quantity of fertilizer at the time of sowing.
The growth of the crop is better if the fertilizer is applied at a depth of 5 to 7 cm below the seed in the row.
Fertilizer wastage can be avoided by applying fertilizers and seeds at the same time with the help of two sticks of paddy.6) On the remaining moisture, sorghum is planted in October, November.
Crop growth is good as long as water is available in the soil.
However, if there is a shortage of water during the next flowering period as well as during the seed filling and ripening period, the yield decreases drastically.
At such a time, if 2-3 protected waters are given during the critical stage of crop growth, the crop grows well and yields well.7) 15 to 30 days after sowing is a very important period for weed control.
If weeds are not controlled during this period, the yield decreases by 15 to 30 percent.
For this purpose weeding should be done 15 days after sowing and 30 days after sowing or 15 and 30 days after sowing and weeding should be done to keep the crop free from weeds.
